• They may be houseplants.  If kept indoors they need to be positioned in bright light eg. in front of a window.
  • They enjoy humidity and will do well in a bathroom as long as they receive the right light conditions.
  • To create humidity for them,  if they are indoors,  place the plant pot on a saucer of water filled with gravel.
  • They are native to tropical North and South America,
  • 3 000 known species.
  • They like be watered overhead in their central cups.
  • Be sure to flush this water regularly with clean water to prevent odour and bacteria.
  • The flowers can last up to six months.
  • Outdoors they are excellent for planting under trees.
  • They may also be mounted and hung up as an alternative to be placed in a container.
